As the long-awaited 2026 Winter Olympics approach, we discovered a cool piece of history in our WSLS archives: the 1956 Winter Olympics, which were also held in Italy, just like this year’s major international sporting event.

The 2026 Winter Olympics is being held across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, after the two cities were selected with a joint bid. It is Italy’s third time hosting the Games – after Cortina in 1956 and Turin in 2006 – but the first time ever across a region.
